We went to see Merv when there should have been no hope for our marriage or our family.
If my wife had chosen to leave, after what I had done, no one would have questioned her decision. But my wife chose not to be justified by the world’s standard. She chose instead to seek the will of God. Her faithfulness to follow His will led us to Merv and his Reclaiming the Heart Ministry. We soon learned that there was, indeed, hope for our marriage and our family. The healing we received, under Merv’s guidance, came from the True Healer – Jesus Christ. Merv, in his humble way, will be the first to admit that he is only the facilitator in this healing process.

My husband was not very excited about going to counselling at all. When we walked into Merv’s office, my husband said “I only give you two days.” But by the end of our first session, he had changed his mind. At the beginning of the week I had a very wounded heart; by the end of our five days my heart was healed. My husband had been set free from his addiction. Also, when conflicts arise we now know how to deal with it much better. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, Jesus totally transformed our lives. We are now set free from the shame and guilt we once carried.

In the recent past my marriage took a huge turn. For years I had literally been living a lie. I felt distant and disconnected from my wife. I was technically “there” in my marriage and home life but not overly committed to either. In one quick moment this all changed drastically. God decided to expose my life and give me a very real choice to make… Change now or lose everything! I decided that I needed to change my life. I really didn’t know where to turn but a friend referred me to Reclaiming the Heart Ministry. It took a number of months to get to where we are at today but I am ecstatic about the help we received.

We have never experienced the power of forgiveness as much as we did during our week with Merv. God met both of us in that room in a very real and personal way, and allowed us to truly forgive ourselves and others, leaving us feeling like new people!
